The general assembly of the communities of Tchove and Tchai-Tchai elected their 10 members to be part of the Natural Resource Management committees, among which 3 women were elected in each committee for leadership positions.
The establishment of the Natural Resource Management committees was facilitated by Banhine National Park´s Community Engagement Team with the aim of strengthening community governance and promoting the management and sustainable use of natural resources in all 18 communities residing in the buffer zone of the park.
This initiative is part of the Community Development Program implemented in the park by the National Administration for Conservation Areas and Peace Parks Foundation to enable greater community engagement and responsibility in conservation and preservation of the valuable natural resources in the region.
One of the priority actions of the Community Development Program is to develop governance strategies adapted to local needs and introduce sustainable and context-appropriate Community Natural Resource Management models.
Community-focused natural resource governance and management involves a variety of institutions and practices, such as natural resource management committees, strengthening property or land-use rights, and water conservation techniques.
